Corporate Social Responsibiltiy
India is home to one sixth of
the world's population. Therefore the future of a billion Indians will
have a strong impact on the world population as a whole.
As the Indian Government works towards making inclusive growth a reality, Jubilant Life Sciences is partnering the Government in some of these initiatives through Jubilant Bhartia Foundation (JBF), a not for profit Company engaged in implementing Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives towards community development for Jubilant Life Sciences. To approach the situation professionally and scientifically, the Company initiated a need analysis study in the year 1992. The study revealed three main areas where the Government needed support.
Supporting - Basic Healthcare Facilities Basic healthcare is an area where Jubilant has been active since early 1980. Since starting its operations in Gajraula(Uttar Pradesh, India), the Company felt that the areas around its manufacturing unit lacked basic healthcare facilities. To overcome the problem Jubilant formed a community healthcare centre in association with the Birla Trust. Today the community healthcare centres of the Company are well equipped to manage medical emergencies with the help of static and mobile dispensaries. Apart from basic health checkups, these clinics are capable of offering Direct Observed Treatment Short-course (DOTS) for diagnosis and treatment of Tuberculosis(TB) and Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres (ICTC) for HIV/AIDS. Special initiatives are aimed at mothers & new born children and school children. SwasthyaPrahari (Health Guards): The Company has started this projectto trainand create local talent pool to raise the awareness and the co-ordination with various service providers. The project covers a population of 1,00,000 around Gajraula(Uttar Pradesh, India), and helps in providing healthcare for 'Mother and Child' inrural areas. Nirogbachpan(Disease Free Childhood): This initiative is aimed at nurturing the children through developing a system of preventive healthcare and proper monitoring of their health status in the "Muskaan" schools. Supporting - Government Rural Primary Education System Jubilant believes that primary education is the bed rock on which a nation builds its future, and the Company is committed to support the government's educational schemes to make quality primary education accessible. Studies show that the numbers of primary schools and quality of education in government schools in rural areas are not adequate. The problem starts with the lack of awareness about the relevance of education in nation building, compounded by the lack of available infrastructure. Jubilant started the project 'Muskaan' (Smile) to support the government initiatives to propagate primary education for everyone. In 2007, the project was stared in Gajraula(Uttar Pradesh, India)and was extended to 15 schools in 2008 and 39 schools in 2009.The project has been highly appreciated by the various stakeholders and recognised by District Education Authorities. A MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) has been signed between the Company and the Uttar Pradesh State Government to replicate this model in other schools. The Company plans to extend project 'Muskaan' to 100 schools by 2012. Supporting - Livelihood Generation programmes for rural youth As India aims for economic growth, there would be tremendous demand for skilled human resource. Jubilant is committed to contribute towards developing this resource pool through Vocational Training programmes and has adopted a two pronged approach of job oriented and entrepreneurship development programmes. These programmes are carefully designed after a thorough understanding of the area and the possible opportunities in that area. The Company is constantly engaged with public and private sector agencies like Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), KrishiVigyan Kendra (KVKs), Grameen Banks, USHA International, NIIT etc.to support these initiatives. Jubilant's Vocational Training Centre at Gajraula(Uttar Pradesh, India) has received the recognition from the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, as a Vocational Training Provider(VTP). The Company's vocational training programmes are aimed at helping women become self-reliant and working towards providing Vocational Training to 5000 youths/women every year. With these initiatives beginning to show results, Jubilant plans to continue to focus on the social initiatives of the Company and slowly spread its area of influence in terms of geography. We realise that our efforts in the area of community development are small steps in the direction of making a difference to the lives of the people we touch. We are determined to scale up our initiatives and reach out to a larger section in the hope to power the circle of prosperity for our communities as we truly believe in enabling our communities to lead a healthy and meaningful life. |
